Who Are We?  The Federal Water Quality Coalition is a group of industrial companies, municipalities, agricultural parties, and trade associations, whose goal is to ensure that water quality programs under the Clean Water Act are focused, flexible, and founded on sound science.

What Do We Do?  In order to achieve that goal, the Coalition actively participates in federal and regional water quality rulemakings, initiatives, and guidance development, through negotiation, written comments, and litigation.

Here are some of the issues that the Federal Water Quality Coalition works on:

      • Total maximum daily loads (TMDLs)
      • Listing of impaired waters
      • Development of water quality standards and criteria
      • Use attainability analyses to change water quality standards
      • NPDES permitting issues
      • Storm water permitting
      • Antidegradation programs
      • Mixing zones
      • Nutrient criteria
      • Mercury issues
      • PCB issues
      • Whole effluent toxicity

The Coalition keeps its members current with the latest activities on these and other water quality issues by e-mailing frequent updates and notices to members, and by holding conference calls and meetings for various issue teams or the Coalition as a whole.
